Beautiful Yiddish

We’re aware that most people have never heard a real Yiddish song. If that’s you, you may be surprised at the beauty, even if you don’t speak a word of Yiddish. If you’re looking to brighten your day, here are a couple of suggestions.

One of the most beautiful songs we know is…

Dem zeydns nigundl (The grandfather’s tune)

If you want to lighten it up more, here’s a purely joyous song about passing down traditions from generation to generation by a wonderful group called Di Dray Kneydlekh (The 3 Matzo Balls).

Hobn mir a nigundl (We have a tune)

Yiddish has a tradition of political songs. Somehow now seems the perfect time to send a shout out for these two songs, as sung by the magnificent Adrienne Cooper.

Gezang for a beserer welt (Song for a better world)

Sharon Bernstein is not only a person who lightens your heart, she lifts it with her beautiful voice.

And what Yiddish introduction would be complete without a comedy routine?

If that’s whet your appetite, you can find lots of other songs, stories, humor, and interviews at https://YiddishLives.org

Enjoy!
